Upgrade to LXQt on Ubuntu 26.04

Update and upgrade 24.04

  1. sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

Install tasksel and sddm on 24.04

  1. sudo apt install tasksel sddm

Install LXQt and on 24.04

  1. sudo  tasksel
  2. select lxqt to install

Perform to upgrade to 26.04

  1. sudo do-release-upgrade -d
  2. select and keep gdm3 during the upgrade when asked
  3. reboot

Trigger an Xog install on 26.04 (it was removed)

  1. Login
  2. sudo apt install lightdm
  3. select sddm
  4. reboot

Select the LXQt Desktop session

  1. The SDDM login manager should come up
  2. Select the LXQt Desktop session from the dropdown menu in the upper left corner

Customize LXQt

The Ubuntu session on Wayland is still available by selecting it on the SDDM login screen
